One gets the distinct impression that Mayor Bloomberg has been keeping company with Cass Sunstein, Obama’s “Nudge” Czar.

Bloomberg now wants to dictate what New Yorkers collecting food stamps can procure with the entitlement.

For example, that two-liter Mountain Dew that cost $1.79 in a NYC bodega is a big no-no.  Instead, Bloomberg wants you to buy that cost $5.97 or the ½ gallon container of Tropicana Orange Juice that cost $4.00.

NYDN

Mayor Bloomberg and Gov. Paterson want the feds to block New Yorkers from using food stamps to buy sugary drinks that can make them fat and diabetic….

Their initiative would stop 1.7 million food stamp users from spending them on soda, sweet teas and other drinks that are packed full of empty calories.”

Of course, Bloomberg and Paterson need the consent of the federal government first which is just what Barack Obama has been waiting for.

As for those receiving food stamps, if they want to buy sugary drinks, that is for them to decide not the Michael Bloomberg, David Paterson, Cass Sunstein or Barack Obama.

Michael Bloomberg’s time should be better spent working on the economy and jobs in New York City instead of trampling upon the rights and freedoms of New Yorkers.

Not to mention, those who use food stamps have been getting around food stamp regulations for years. I have witnessed people buying packs of cigarettes with food stamps.

If people are going to eat healthy, they can and will do it without being nudged, pressed or shoved into doing so.
