~ “I hope we once again have reminded people that man is not free unless government is limited. There’s a clear cause and effect here that is as neat and predictable as a law of physics: as government expands, liberty contracts.” Ronald Reagan.
The welfare state of mind has spiraled out of control in America
Two recent news stories highlight how pernicious the welfare state has become in America today.
The first was an announcement by the feds that food stamps can be used to have groceries delivered right to a recipient’s door. Service with a smile. The Obama administration says it is too much of a hardship for those on welfare to actually travel to the grocery store. What’s next? Cooking the meal for them? If only the DMV would do home deliveries for drivers licenses….
The welfare/entitlement state of mind has spiraled out of control in America. No one is lifting a finger of opposition. The cost of welfare is now well over $1 trillion a year. Food stamps are so ubiquitous that they have replaced dollars as the new standard currency in many inner cities in America. Even in affluent areas with upscale grocery stores, food stamp recipients fill their carts with everything from cakes to lobster[…]
“We shall not rest until that war is won…” That of course would mean that Lyndon Johnson whose war on poverty is a colossal disaster must be doing back flips in his grave “from the courthouse to the White House.”
Greg Gutfeld pointed out on “The Five” today that the U.S. census counts a family as poor, but excludes any income or benefits they receive from the government, thus ensuring that those programs will grow while poverty statistics remain unchanged.
“It’s not a war on poverty, it’s a zombie that you can’t kill,” he said. “Stop throwing money at it. This is crazy.”
According to the U.S. Census Bureau 14.5% of the population in the USA (45.3 million Americans) were living at or below the poverty level in 2013. In addition, the number of children living in poverty decreased by 1.4 million, to 14.7 million.
Census officials said that income inequality did not change in a statistically significant way from 2012 to 2013. However, they said, inequality has increased substantially in the last two decades, and the most common measure of household income inequality, known as the Gini index, is up 4.9 percent since 1993….
About the U. S. Census Bureau’s report on poverty, Greg Gutfeld is dead on point. Poverty, as defined in today’s America is far different from the definition of poverty, fifty years ago because our bureaucrats are continually moving the goalpost.
Since its beginning, U.S. taxpayers have spent $22 trillion on Johnson’s War on Poverty (in constant 2012 dollars). Adjusting for inflation, that’s three times more than was spent on all military wars since the American Revolution.
The federal government currently runs more than 80 means-tested welfare programs. These programs provide cash, food, housing and medical care to low-income Americans. Federal and state spending on these programs last year was $943 billion. (These figures do not include Social Security, Medicare, or Unemployment Insurance.)
…Census counts a family as poor if its income falls below specified thresholds. But in counting family “income,” Census ignores nearly the entire $943 billion welfare state….
Typical Commie elitist wench Whoopi Goldberg who was out of league had to shut Dr. Carson down because he was making a lot more sense than Barack Obama ever could. No doubt, the applause from actor, Terry Crews and the audience must have really hit a nerve.
In a brief speech on the House floor Wednesday, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) hailed the war on poverty, endorsed government welfare programs, and said the “safety net has to be something for all of us.”
‘Maybe the word welfare should be changed to something of, ‘a transitional living fund.’ For that is what it is — for people to be able to live,’ she said….
If Progressives were truly serious about solving poverty, it would have been eliminated by now. Instead they use entitlements to keep people enslaved while they themselves are filching the funding that go into these programs.
Jackson “Chia Pet” Lee does not want to address the problem of government dependency, she merely wants to see it flourish which is why she wants to re-label the “welfare” system to a “’a transitional living fund.”
That which poverty brokers push like drugs has nothing to do with transitioning of any kind. It only ensures that they keep people down while the poverty brokers keep their jobs. Lyndon B. Johnson was no damned different.
Government entitlements, on the government dole, welfare state, government dependency, slavery different labels, the same game. Progressives have even re-written the definition of poverty.
A “transitional living fund” is nothing more than lipstick on a pig.
Shopping Frenzy in Louisiana during EBT card malfunction 10142013
Last month during an EBT system malfunction, more than 12,000 SNAP recipients across the state of Louisiana went on a shopping frenzy with their EBT cards.
During the time that the system was down, the limits on the EBT cards were removed enabling SNAP recipients to purchase food and non-EBT approved items that included purchases that far exceeded the limit as legally dispatched to each recipient.
Their shopping binge by many was clearly fraudulent and intentional; many of those who committed fraud were no longer in the SNAP program or had low balances.
… It is unclear how many recipients stand in line to lose benefits for a year, but more than 12,000 received an insufficient funds notice when the EBT card system was corrected on Oct.12, the report said…. The frenzy at some stores was likened to the busiest shopping day of the year. ‘It was worse than any Black Friday,…’
First time offenders will be suspended from the SNAP program for one year. Second time offenders, will receive a 24-month suspension and a third offense will result in permanent disqualification from the SNAP program.
On the same day, 17 states were affected by the EBT system malfunction. SNAP recipients were unable to use their card for approximately 18 hours which resulted in riots in some areas.
Clearly, the fraudsters, many of whom have families, did not think about the repercussions of their actions.
Not only is this madness, this is another tactic at keeping people slaves and government dependent.
If given maternity leave, just how many of these young girls does the “system” think will return to school?
This is a joke and an insult to everyone but young not so bright pregnant girls who got that way thinking that they know better than the rest of us.
Furthermore, the very thought of a pregnant student being granted maternity leave would increase the traffic coming across our border ten-fold or is that part of the plan?
