Bonfire of the academies: Two professors on how leftist intolerance is killing higher education

A brilliant post in this morning’s Washington Examiner written by college professors Heather Heying, a professor of biology “in exile” from Evergreen College and Bret Weinstein also removed from Evergreen State College because, as he was informed by the faculty, they did not believe that they could save him from rabid, barking moonbats (my emphasis on the latter).

Weinstein’s cardinal sin was that he vocally “objected to a planned “Day of Absence” in which white people were asked to leave campus on April 12.” The response came quickly, was uncivil and evil. How dare this biology professor not behave as demanded, correction ordained by fascists pretending to be freedom fighters and because of Weinstein expressed his concern, in one instant, he instantly became odd man out a pariah. Those who called for a “Day without whitey,” I meant a “Day of Absence ‘aka no white people allowed day’ immediately began employing tactics from Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals.

Weinstein was harangued, threatened, his family threatened and banned from campus by faculty because the college could not (would not?) guarantee his safety.

Suddenly both Heying and Weinstein were treated as if they had no voice and/or right to be heard.

At colleges and universities all over the country, students are protesting in increasingly virulent and sometimes violent ways. They demand safe spaces and trigger warnings, shouting down those with whom they disagree. It has become rote for outsiders to claim that the inmates are running the asylum; that this is analogous to Mao’s Red Guard, Germany’s brown shirts, the French Revolution’s Jacobins; and, when those being attacked are politically “left” themselves, that the Left is eating its own. These stories seem to validate every fantasy the Right ever had about the Left. As two professors who recently resigned from positions at a college we loved, and who have always been on the progressive-left end of the political spectrum, we can say that, while none of those characterizations is exactly right, there is truth in each of them. The Evergreen State College is a public liberal arts college in Olympia, Wash., at the southern tip of Puget Sound, surrounded by water and forests. Being public means it has a socioeconomically diverse student body, which brings a variety of life experiences to campus. It is not an elite college made up primarily of rich kids. William & Mary’s Black Lives Matter Shut Down ACLU, Eat Their Own

A monster of their own making, the ACLU’s chickens are returning home to roost.

The College of William & Mary”s Black Lives Matter students shut down an ACLU speaker who was trying to discuss free speech last week. They declared that liberalism is “white supremacy” and were angry that the focus wasn’t on the fake police crimes against Michael Brown and Freddie Gray.

They were also angry that the ACLU didn’t keep the white supremacist groups from marching in Charleston, Virginia.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), a left-wing organization like theirs, was trying to speak to students about the First Amendment with another organization.

Students would not let Claire Guthrie Gastañaga, the ACLU’s Virginia executive director, speak as they chanted psychotically for about five minutes.

When she tried to speak, they would chant, “the oppressed are not impressed,” “shame, shame, shame, shame,” and “liberalism is white supremacy….”

Absolutely incredible that California state officials attempted to block Donald Trump from speaking in California.

Clearly, such actions was a clarion call for their Marxist puppets to riot.

The mentality of a moonbat is that it is only racist when White people do it.

Ugh! How is it acceptable for Latinos, Asians, Muslims and Blacks to have their own student unions and it not be declared racist but the moment Caucasians decide to have its Whites only organization, they are attacked, labeled racist and condemned by their university?

If groups of black, Latino and Asian students all had their own race-exclusive clubs at a prominent American University, it would only stand to reason that white students should be able to form a union of their own, right?

Not only would it be fair, but it would also fall under this oft-overlooked amendment to the United States Constitution — The First Amendment.

Unfortunately, administrators at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign apparently aren’t fans of our founding document, because the moment white students set up a Facebook page for a new “white union” in response to a Black Lives Matter group disrupting their lives on campus, staffers were on the phone with Facebook requesting that the page be taken down.

I am so sick of the lunacy, derision and the detrimental effect that the actions of Progressive loons are having on America.

On Saturday afternoon, my 9-year-old grandson arrived. Besides, Thanksgiving Day, his school is closed this week and so we will have plenty of time together.

Last evening as he finished reading a homework sheet followed up by a Q&A on Anne Frank, we entered into several discussions. I began by telling him what his homework sheet did not.

We discussed Adolf Hitler, Hitler’s children, the Nazis and the Jewish ghettos all the way through the end of the Holocaust, which was mysteriously missing from his reading. I also told him about how the world turned a blind eye and its back on European Jews and from there we went to a discussion on Black Lives Matter, which morphed into a discussion on the First, and the Fourth Amendments.

While my grandson easily picks upon the hypocrisy and insanity of the Black Lives Matter meme, it is political correctness, the right to free expression and speech that throws him off. Much of that has to do with his other grandmother a Progressive and legal immigrant from Jamaica who thinks Barack Obama walks on water (still) has this warped mentality about the U. S. Constitution. The woman is a racist and a sock puppet for Progressive elites.

(Hey, just keeping it real. Besides, she knows how I feel. I got so pissed once when speaking to my daughter-in-law that I told her that her mother was a fascist…moving on.)

The discussion led us to the hypocrisy, double standards of the left. I emphasized the fact that while one may not like what the other has to say, the other is still entitled to say it. That really confused him.

We left off with the Fourth Amendment.

I have six more days to educate him further on his liberties, World War II and the Holocaust, all of which came up during our discussion last night.

This afternoon, since the other grandmother is an anti-Semite, I will delve deeper into the Holocaust with him, which is bound to hit a nerve when my grandson shares with grandma moonbat what I taught him.

Somebody has to break the cycle of insanity.
