New Fast and Furious Documents Reveal DOJ’s Efforts to Obstruct Congressional Investigation

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) sent a memo to Republican Committee members detailing new documents related to Operation Fast and Furious. These documents reveal efforts by senior officials at the Department of Justice to withhold key materials related to the botched gunwalking operation.

Chairman Jason Chaffetz released the following statement on the documents:

“Transparency should not require years of litigation and a court order. These documents illustrate the lengths to which this administration went in order to limit and block access to subpoenaed information. Calculated efforts were made by senior DOJ officials to obstruct Congress. This attempt to prioritize a political agenda ahead of facts is unsettling and unacceptable.”

Background:

The Fast and Furious operation was responsible for allowing approximately 2,000 firearms to illegally flow into the hands of criminals, including Mexican drug cartel associates. On December 14, 2010, Customs and Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry, a United States Marine, was killed while on patrol just miles from the Mexican border. The firearms found at the scene were semi-automatic rifles that were allowed to walk as part of Operation Fast and Furious.

Congressional Republicans have investigated Fast and Furious since January 2011. Over the course of the investigation, the Justice Department has provided false information, stonewalled document requests, produced scores of blacked-out pages and duplicate documents, and refused to comply with two congressional subpoenas.

In August 2012, the U.S. House of Representatives Office of General Counsel filed suit against the Justice Department.

On January 19, 2016, United States District Judge Amy Berman Jackson issued her opinion and ordered DOJ release documents previously withheld under the President’s executive privilege claim. On April 8, 2016, DOJ complied with the Judge’s order, delivering more than 20,500 pages of documents to the Committee.

VA Official Nudged Staff into Attending Psychic Reading Parties.

Senior official, Lucy Filipov, Assistant Director of the scandal-ridden Philadelphia Department of Veterans Affairs went beyond the pale when she “nudged” staff to attend psychic reading parties procuring the services of colleague Gary Hodge, Manager of the Pension Management Center’s wife.

Pursuant to an IG report, not only were VA employees expected to attend, they were forced to pay admittance, the fee of which ranged from $15 to $35 for services rendered.

Also in the report are findings that Hodge also a VA employee failed to disclose his wife’s income “on his 2013 and 2014 Confidential Financial Disclosure Reports, Office of Government Ethics (OGE) Forms 450, which he certified as true, complete, and correct.”

The report focused on a June 6 social gathering at Filipov’s home. She used her official VA email account to organize the event and recruit employees to attend and pay for Hodge’s wife’s services.

‘The employees told us of their reticence [sic] with their paid psychic participation, and said that they generally wanted to participate, but exhibited some reservation,’ the IG reported….

Thursday’s report suggests that Filipov’s inappropriate promotion of a colleague’s wife’s psychic business interests could exacerbate employee mistrust of VA management….

MEDIA BLACKOUT: Police Comm. Investigating Charlie Hebdo Terrorist Attack Allegedly “Commits Suicide”

As the events around the last week Charlie Hebdo terrorist attack continues to take all kinds of twists and turns, we now learn of a media blackout on the alleged suicide of Police Commissioner Helric Fredou, Number Two Police Officer of the Regional Service of France’s Judicial Police (JP), Limoges, (Haute-Vienne).

Fredou is alleged to have committed suicide by putting a gun to his head at 1 a.m. the morning on Charlie Hebdo terrorist attack.

Terror suspects Cherif and Said Kouachi who were shot dead by police on January 9, spent their high-school years in the Limoges region. No doubt this was the object of Fredou’s police investigation. Yet police and media reports state that on that same Wednesday he was involved in a meeting with the family of one of the Charlie Hebdo victims.

At the time of his death, police claim to have not known the reason for his alleged suicide. This was reflected in their official statements to the media: “It is unknown at this time the reasons for his actions”. However, a back story appears to have been inserted simultaneously, most likely from the very same police media liaisons, who then told the press that Fredou was ‘depressed and overworked’. For any law enforcement officer in France, it would seem rather odd that anyone would want to miss the biggest single terror event in the century, or history in the making, as it were.

Obama has an Ebola Czar who Re-Directed Fed Research $$$ to a Democrat Donor Now in Chapter 11

I bet you didn’t even know that Barack Obama had an Ebola czar. Well don’t feel bad, neither did I and like the CDC, it appears that Dr. Nicole Lurie has been doing everything BUT her job. Politics, politics, politics.

Nicole Lurie, M.D., M.S.P.H. is the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR), HHS, the position of which was created after Hurricane Katrina.

According to the HHS.gov website, “her office is to lead the nation in preventing, responding to and recovering from the adverse health effects of public health emergencies and disasters, ranging from hurricanes to bioterrorism.”

So why haven’t we heard of Lurie and why has the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response been MIA these past several weeks during the firestorm surrounding the outbreak of the Ebola virus and its bungling by the Obama administration? (Unless, of course, Americans, the world as a whole is being misled and this Ebola is a hoax as many maintain it to be.)

Lurie, corruption, pay to play, politics and the Obama administration’s lack of transparency is the reason that Americans have had to suffer Tom Freiden, CDC jackass who has been thrust to the forefront.

Putting Lurie on display would re-open a scandal which never gathered any steam in the mainstream media back in 2011 involving billionaire, Progressive political donor Ron Perelman and a no-bid contract for contract for New York-based Siga Technologies Inc. of which Perelman is the controlling shareholder.

Siga received the contract “a $433-million plan to buy an experimental smallpox drug, despite uncertainty over whether it is needed or will work”…. “ through a ‘sole-source’ procurement.”

The Obama administration official who has overseen the buying of Siga’s drug says she is trying to strengthen the nation’s preparedness. Dr. Nicole Lurie, a presidential appointee who heads biodefense planning at Health and Human Services, cited a 2004 finding by the Bush administration that there was a “material threat” smallpox could be used as a biological weapon.

One more thing, just four weeks ago, Siga Technologies filed for reorganization under Chapter 11 in U.S. Bankruptcy Court.

The chapter 11 filing will ensure that SIGA continues to supply Tecovirimat pursuant to its contract with the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA), and is able to pursue what it believes is a meritorious appeal of a pending Delaware Chancery Court proceeding….

The petition for reorganization was filed in response to “an Aug. 8 ruling from Delaware’s Court of Chancery in a suit that started in 2006. The corporate law court said PharmAthene is entitled to collect lump sum damages, with interest and fees.”

What is abundantly clear is that the Obama administration having its hands full would rather this scandal not re-surface. Thus, it is therefore necessary to keep, HHS, Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response, Nicole Lurie, M.D., in the background at all costs.

At this moment, House Energy and Commerce Committee is holding a hearing on the government’s response to the Ebola outbreak. Nicole Lurie is not present. Why was she not called to testify and why hasn’t she taken on the effort “to coordinate preparation for and response to public health threats like Ebola.”

These are the concerns that House Energy and Commerce Committee should also be addressing at this very moment. The fact that they are not is more proof that this whole thing stinks from the top down.

Rarely do I watch a program more than once but I watched it at least three times out of the many times the above program played this weekend.

I did so because I wanted to be sure that I was hearing correctly the events as they unfolded as told by witnesses who were on the ground in Libya when the U.S. Consulate and CIA safe house came under assault in Benghazi almost two years to the date, September 12, 2012, by Islamic terrorists that resulted in the deaths of four Americans, US. Ambassador, Christopher Stevens, Ambassador, Sean Smith, Information Officer, Glen Doherty and Tyrone Woods, Navy SEALs and the injuries dozens of others.

The fact that help was just five minutes away and had they not been ordered to stand down for 30 minutes, Stevens, Ambassador, Smith, Doherty and Woods would not have died that night leaves one’s blood boiling.

There must be accountability.
