I’m going to answer the question from today’s title right away. Yes.

Since the 1960’s the intellectual elite, who avoided the draft by hiding out in the university system, have sought to use higher education to promote their pacifist socialist ideology. Their trainees in turn became the trainers of the next generation of fresh young minds ready to absorb whatever they needed to in order to get the degree. Left out of this indoctrination system were America’s working class voters. The unions took care of many of those. But not everyone bought into the elite’s vision that they should control the whole system because they knew what was best for everyone else. There were still some who escaped the indoctrination of the intelligencia.

While not the entire reason we are seeing a push for everyone to go to college, this desire to subject as many future voters as possible to their ideological factory cannot be denied as a pillar of the post-secondary-degree-for-all campaign.

Common Core sets the foundation for this kind of “we’re all global citizens with responsibility for taking care of everyone else” mentality in K-12. This creates the “natural” view that everyone should be taught the same thing. The university system cements this vision in place by refusing to confer the papers necessary for employment (unless you start your own company), until the student can parrot back the “correct” common ideological answers.

There is just no data to support the need for 60+% of our K-12 graduates to go to college to get a degree. Still, parents feel the unrelenting push is to send their children there so they can get a job. They are hit constantly with the message that everyone’s goal is to make the child COLLEGE or career ready. No one from the Common Core camp has been able to satisfactorily explain how a single K-12 curriculum is going to prepare students for one and not the other outcome, so in essence we are preparing to catapult everyone into college while accepting that some just won’t quite make it over the wall….

EAG News by Victor Skinner

LAS VEGAS – Parents in the Clark County school system sent a very strong and clear message to the school board Tuesday: Don’t change the sex education curriculum.

The Clark County School Board spent about seven hours on a special public forum on the district’s sex education curriculum, primarily about whether to go to an “opt-out” format with “comprehensive” sex education – rather than the current “opt-in” abstinence-focused approach, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.

The question about “opt out” – which would provide sex ed to all students except those whose parents request otherwise – is irrelevant because state law requires parental consent for the lessons. The Tuesday meeting was called in part to gauge parental interest in lobbying lawmakers to shift to a “opt-out” system….

The Latest PR Piece in The Atlantic Magazine for Common Core…Wait for It! Who Gave Money to this Magazine?

Oh, here come those ***( (fill in your adjective here) citizens who won’t buy the Common Core schtick. They are already assumed in the title to buy into ridiculous theories. It should read “Why Middle Class Parents are up in arms about being marginalized, ignored and Alinskyed”

Missouri Education Watchdog, Gretchen Logue

The Atlantic trotted out the tired labels and pinned them on parents/taxpayers against The Common Core State Standards Intiative in Suburbia and Its Common Core Conspiracy Theories:

  • White suburban moms
  • Republican tea partiers
  • Fearmongerers
  • Irrational
  • Hysterical
  • Confused

The memo must have gone out that the new phrase to use on those against the Intiative is confused rather than misinformed, although writer Laura McKenna implies parents are too stupid to understand the Common Core States Standards Initiative without someone giving them guidance and information she believes is valid […]

SCREENSHOT data mining students privacy

Just making the deadline, the New York State Department of Education has come out with a “Parents’ Bill of Rights” regarding the use of student data.

As reported by LoHud, every school district has to post the parents’ bill of rights and name of vendor contract the district enters into if the vendor receives student data. Therein lays the rub, vendors receiving student data. Vendors will have to submit a plan on how they will protect student data.

EAG

…The fact that third-party contractors are still allowed to handle sensitive student data will come as a disappointment to many parents. To stop that practice, however, would likely require a change to the federal government’s FERPA law, which Education Secretary Arne Duncan watered down to help facilitate Common Core-related data sharing….

Boston Globe

When Justina Pelletier arrived home early Wednesday afternoon in the passenger seat of her mother’s sport utility vehicle, her father, Lou, made a cradle with his arms and carried her through the front yard.

The 16-year-old girl with the shiny sunglasses and a bow in her hair cannot walk on her own anymore. But on Wednesday, for her family, crossing the threshold of her house in any fashion was a big enough step.

For the first time in 16 months, Justina would sleep in her own bed. She was once again her parent’s daughter not just by blood, but by law.

‘She wants a hamburger on the grill, and she wants to sit down and lie on the couch and watch a movie with the family,’ said Justina’s mother, Linda….

The family’s primary focus is to help Justina regain her health.

As far as what the family and Justina was forced to endure at the hands of an overreaching government in collusion with medical facilities that crossed the line the past 16 months, Linda and Lou Pelletier “intend to press their argument that hospitals are too eager to accuse families of medical child abuse without sufficient reason, seizing children from their mothers and fathers.”

Reason

Today, the state legislature passed Senate Bill 61, known as the Louisiana Public School Choice Act. If signed into law by Governor Bobby Jindal, the bill would allow parents of students in schools graded “D” or “F”to enroll their child in any public school that is graded “C” or above, beginning in the 2014–2015 school year. Parents throughout the state would no longer be limited by arbitrary school district lines that force their children to attend failing schools.

Louisiana has already made a name for itself as the Silicon Valley of education reform with the state’s Recovery School District (RSD)—the first all-charter school district in the nation, where kids enroll in the public charter school of their choice. Signing Senate Bill 61 into law would further move the needle for school choice, making Louisiana the first state to enact a statewide open enrollment policy….
