Joshua Pundit, Watcher of Weasels
Every week on Monday morning , the Council and our invited guests weigh in at the Watcher’s Forum, short takes on a major issue of the day, the culture, or daily living. This week’s question: What Is Your Reaction To The Defeat Of ObamaTrade?
The Razor: Although I am a strong advocate for free trade, my reaction to the defeat of ObamaTrade involves a Snoopy Dance and a high-five to union leaders, if there were any about.
If free trade is an unalloyed good, why the secrecy?
The behavior of supporters especially the GOP reminded me why I was an independent voter for so long. The GOP really can act like tin-eared d***heads just as the Left portrays them to be.
I continue to support free trade but only when it’s negotiated openly and clearly in the best interest of the US. At this point neither one of those aspects is likely true for the TPP.
Laura Rambeau Lee, Right Reason: I am glad it was defeated. Call me skeptical, but a bill to allocate funding to help displaced American workers as a result of a trade agreement just might mean the trade bill is not a good deal for the American people. This is proof that our elected servants, on both sides of the aisle, are not to be trusted with our national and domestic security or in keeping our nation sovereign. They are not looking out for We the People or in protecting our interests. Wealth redistribution is the end game here, and I hope more Americans become aware of the traitors within our government.
Is it time for a third party yet?
GrEaT sAtAn”S gIrLfRiEnD : Several things fly to mind. 1St off, 44 is a lame duck. Look for 44 and his bi partisan Posse of Enabling enablers will simply try a new Pac Rim maneuver. This highlights an economic schism betwixt Democrat party cats of corporate America and the Occupy wing leading to another issue.
The 2016 race. For Democrats, at least any contenders to the nomination can widen the distance between themselves and administration policy, go all out with populist and/or a re distributionist socialist agenda.
JoshuaPundit : I pretty much said what I had to say here, but I’ll add the following.
First, this is no new ‘consensus’ between conservatives and the Left. Nancy Pelosi, one of the more corrupt, hyper-partisan and venal members of congress did what she did for one simple reason – the Democrat base is heavily dependent on unions. And while Barack Hussein Obama will be gone in a year and seven months, the unions won’t be. Nervertheless, she still deserves thanks for this one useful act in a forty year-plus congressional career of feeding off the public trough.
What she is telling us is something anyone paying attention already knows. President Obama is not only a feral incompetent but a deceitful, self-serving liar of the first order. And there is no honor among thieves.
Unfortunately, that description also fits the Republican congressional leadership. They have systematically betrayed the party’s base that put them in office with a cynical glee on ObamaCare, the EPAs agenda, this president’s radical appointments to judgeships and administration posts, the obscene debt the administration has run up and Obama’s amnesty for illegal aliens by executive order. All of that could have been stopped, and Boehner, McConnell and their cronies are directly responsible for the fact that they weren’t.
They are as unworthy of trust as this president, and unless they make concrete and major amends very quickly, I say we take the time to form a new party and be done with them.
The Independent Sentinel : My reaction is that I won’t have much of a reaction until I’m sure it’s dead, at least for this session. I am sorry because I would like to see trade opened up but I’m also relieved for the obvious reasons – Mr. Obama is not trustworthy and there are questions about TPP that won’t be answered until it’s probably too late.
Larry Kudlow is a good example of a strong proponent of TPP and all its accompanying bills.
He characterized all dissenters as unions, xenophobes, protectionists and trouble makers on his radio show Saturday. He questioned whether any dissenters could possibly be Conservative. He was brutal and I question whether that’s the way to win over converts. He made many good points, however, but in the end, as it turns out, he didn’t even read the TPA – the fast track authority bill. He shouldn’t be talking about it with such venom if he didn’t read it though I doubt it would change his mind. Looking over the TPA which is posted online, it appears to be routine but there’s room in it to twist it to fit an agenda.
What is certainly not routine is this administration.
It’s not the process that’s the problem, it’s to whom we are giving this authority. We know his agenda and we know he’s lawless. There is little doubt he disregards the will of the people in favor of a minority of far-left voters.
There is nothing normal about this administration and giving this president so much power is not about revenge as Kudlow said Saturday, it’s about trust, plain and simple.
Allegedly, 600 corporations helped write TPP and the US attorney in charge is almost as far left as one can get.
Why not slow it down by rejecting TPA and TAA? Why not wait until February 2017? What’s the rush?
Are we going to keep allowing our representatives – at least they are supposed to be representing us – are we going to keep allowing them to rush through these thousand-plus-page bills without anyone reading and debating them? Are we going to let them continuously tell us they won’t let us read them until the end is nigh or after the fact?
What kind of Republic is this? Oh, wait, our administration thinks we are a democracy. Therein lies the problem for me.
The Glittering Eye :It may not make much difference. I’d say it was about 50/50 that another bill to grant the president “fast track” authorization will be enacted next week or the week after. We’ll see.
I think the politics of the situation are interesting. I can’t recall another instance in which the Congressional leadership of the president’s own party organized opposition to a bill the president supported. I can remember many instances when members of the president’s own party disagreed with the president but the Congressional leaders organizing opposition is a different kettle of fish.
Ask Marion : I think that every once in a while God gives America and freedom another chance to wake-up and turn things around and throws a wrench into the plans of the global governance groups. The defeat of ObamaTrade, just as the Bilderberg elites are meeting along with the simultaneous morphing of Paul Ryan into Nancy Pelosi in front of all ours eyes, shedding much needed light on the GOP ‘Establishment’ leadership in Congress that makes it too obvious to even the weakest Republicans and Independents not to notice that there is a problem, is just one of those times.
Ironically Progressives, including Nancy Pelosi, for the first time honestly came together with Conservatives and thwarted Barack Obama’s New World Order agenda. Jeff Sessions was on point but the ‘Republican Establishment leadership’… John Boehner, Paul Ryan, Kevin McCarthy and Mitch McConnell’s betrayal still almost cost Americans jobs and freedom. Time for a new Speaker!!
There is rumor that Boehner may call for another vote in the House on ObamaTrade on Tuesday. He might think twice or there may finally be a serious call for a vote for a new Speaker instead!
Obama will no doubt just sign some version of an ObamaTrade executive order or action and justify it as Congressional weakness and inaction… but at least that will not be permanent or binding!!
Well, there you have it!
Make sure to tune in every Monday for the Watcher’s Forum and every Tuesday morning, when we reveal the week’s nominees for Weasel of the Week!
And remember, every Wednesday, the Council has its weekly contest with the members nominating two posts each, one written by themselves and one written by someone from outside the group for consideration by the whole Council. The votes are cast by the Council and the results are posted on Friday morning.
It’s a weekly magazine of some of the best stuff written in the blogosphere and you won’t want to miss it… or any of the other fantabulous Watcher’s Council content.
And don’t forget to like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter… ’cause we’re cool like that, y’know?
