LONDONDERRY, N.H. – Federal bureaucrats in Washington, D.C. are threatening a New Hampshire school district after it withdrew its local high school from the National School Lunch Program. School officials last year decided to remove Londonderry High School from the National School Lunch Program after nutrition regulations championed by first lady Michelle Obama resulted in a significant drop in cafeteria sales, and a significant increase in food waste, the New Hampshire Union Leader reports.

The move meant the high school forfeited federal subsidies that come with the program, but officials increased lunch prices and introduced new offerings students love to make up the difference, and then some[…]

As punishment for opting out of Michelle Obama’s National School Lunch Program, the USDA is threatening to treat the school as a processing facility, the categorization of which would “impose substantial regulatory and financial burdens.

GOVERNMENT TYRANNY is at play here. The federal government is punishing the school for opting out of the federal school lunch program even though opting out has provided the school “more leeway to design its own dining offerings,” increased student satisfaction and healthier for students.

The school board plans to contact legislators in the efforts of securing a waiver for the school. (The USDA is really going to hate the school’s salad bar.)

Fayetteville-Manlius and Baldwinsville school districts in New York State are among the latest of thousands of school districts across the United States to ditch the National School Lunch Program that resulted in a sharp downturn of student participation, signature program of Michelle Obama.

Strict limits on calories, fat, sugar, carbohydrates, sodium and other aspects of the school lunch imposed by the federal government on schools participating in the free and reduced lunch program has not only increased cafeteria costs, they’ve resulted in a drastic drop in the number of participating students….

As a result of last year’s school lunch menu high school lunch sales in Baldwinsville plummeted from about 600 to 430 students per day.

“We all want a lower carb diet. But it’s hard to sell a sub on something that looks more like a piece of paper than a sub roll,” Hamilton said. “I understand the shift but now the students aren’t opting to eat any of that. They’re stepping away entirely.”

Fayetteville-Manlius schools are experiencing the same phenomenon, and took a survey of students before deciding to trash the federal lunch regulations. The survey’s common theme: portion sizes are too small and the food just doesn’t taste that great, WRVO reports….

As reported earlier this summer by Fox News, “An estimated $1 Billion worth of food is going in the trash each year.” There should be an investigation into how much is going into the Obama’s pockets.
