This past Sunday Mike Huckabee appeared on ABC This Week with George Stephanopoulos. Stephanopoulos through the entire interview grilled Huckabee over the former governor’s stance on the incarceration of Kentucky County Clerk Kim Davis.
Huckabee went head to head Stephanopoulos on judicial tyranny and the importance of checks and balances at the federal level and as far as Obergefell v. Hodges becoming the law of the land, Huckabee stated, “When the courts have a ruling then it is incumbent upon Congress to codify that into law.”
Typical of Progressives, stupidity reigns as Stephanopoulos asked Huckabee if he would have supported a county clerk standing up in opposition to the landmark Supreme Court case, Loving v. Virginia (1967):
“The Court rejected the state’s argument that the statute was legitimate because it applied equally to both blacks and whites and found that racial classifications were not subject to a “rational purpose” test under the Fourteenth Amendment. The Court also held that the Virginia law violated the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. “Under our Constitution,” wrote Chief Justice Earl Warren, “the freedom to marry, or not marry, a person of another race resides with the individual, and cannot be infringed by the State.”
SIDEBAR
This is yet another example of Progressives co-opting the past to shove their agenda down the throats of Americans. Gay marriage has absolutely no relative connection to inter-racial marriage, i.e., Loving v. Virginia (1967) or any other stepping-stone in the Civil Rights era.
END OF SIDEBAR. RANT OVER.
Stephanopoulos could not cite a statute to back up his argument, the schmuck. Probably got his talking points from the Clintons and Media Matters.
Former Governor Huckabee has established the following petition on his website.
I’m holding an “#ImWithKim Liberty Rally” on Tuesday, September 8th at the Carter County Detention Center in Grayson, Kentucky at 3:00 PM ET (local time).
Dear President Obama, Attorney General Lynch, & Judge Bunning:
Immediately release Kim Davis from federal custody. Exercising Religious Liberty should never be a crime in America. This is a direct attack on our God-given, constitutional rights.
If interested, you can sign the petition calling for the release of Kim Davis here.
