Forum: Are Sanctions On Countries trading With Iran Wise Policy?

Every Monday, the WoW! community and our invited guests weigh in at the Forum, short takes on a major issue of the day, the culture, or daily living. This week’s question: Are Sanctions On Countries Trading With Iran Wise Policy?

Don Surber:Yes. Given that the Iranian protests are in their second month, there is a chance for a regime change. Women are doffing their headgear, and drivers are parking their trucks. The Grand Bazaar in Teheran shut down. 40 years ago, merchants in the Grand Bazaar backed the Iranian Revolution. Now they seem to want a regime change.

The only influence the United States has is in commerce. President Trump wisely is avoiding too much public support, and I doubt we are doing clandestine operations, as well. Why risk being associated with the rebellion? Any conection betwen us and them will end the revolution. The one thing we can do is not trade with Iran, and tom punish those who do.

This is the latest sign that the New World Order failed. Brexit, Trump, Macron, AMLO in Mexico, and now this. There are many other examples of regime changes because the old order failed The People.

Patrick O’Hannigan:I wish I could be more original on this question than to say that I agree with Don, but — I agree with Don!

Deterrence does not have to be exclusively in the military realm. The sanctions game (and it is a game, of sorts) amounts to “Leave the gun –Take the cannoli” writ large.

Rob Miller
: Oh, I think it’s imperative. Iran’s economy is in free fall. No one wants the rial, inflation is rampant and the prices of food and other necessities is skyrocketing. That’s a big part of what’s behind the protests. Iran will not be able to continue to financially afford adventures abroad in Yemen, Syria or Lebanon for too much longer, and even Iraq’s kingmaker Muqtada al-Sadr is inching away from Iran somewhat. This will get even worse once Trump’s sanctions on countries buying Iran’s oil and natural gas take effect. Iran also my not have the funds needed to continue to be Hamas’s pay master along with Erdogan. The EU, BTW are looking like they’re reluctantly going along with the sanctions. They need our markets far more than Iran’s, and their choice will boil down to paying Putin’s atrocious prices or buying U.S. LPGD.

I also think our President and his team members are making a mistake by NOT informing the American people what a hideous regime this is…how it brutalizes its own people, the corruption of the Ayatollahs, and that Iran is not in any sense a ‘democracy. They need to explain that Iran has been in a state of war with America since 1979. They need to tell the American people that Iran never actually even signed th eso called ‘Iran Deal.’ They need to remind the American people about Iran’s complicity in 9/11, and how the rhetoric of both Ayatollahs Khomeini and Khamanei focus on the Twelver Sect’s open embrace of apocalypse as a necessity for the Hidden Imam to return to rule the world for their brand of Islam.

The days of Iran’s despotic regime aren’t over yet. That won’t happen until the Army turns. But this is a great way to get the ball rolling.

Bookworm:
I’m going to be so original that I’ll say I agree with both Don and Patrick! Honestly, I’d love to add some unique, wonderful insight, but I think they said it all.

What I will tack on, because I’m petty, is that one of Obama’s most significant failings as president happened early in his administration when he refused to give the Green Revolution any moral support. As we know now, the self-centered Obama had his own grand dream of “solving” Iran and was content to let people die in the streets rather than risk losing the halo he envisioned for himself.

Laura Rambeau Lee:I must say I agree with everyone, also. Sanctions hit them where it hurts most and can often lead to cooperation where and when we need it.

Well, there it is!

20 Year Olds in Iran keep a Freedom Torch Alive Thought Extinguished 40 Years Ago

Unified Patriots by Vassar Bushmills

20 year-old Iranians are taking to the streets demanding a return of freedoms that were taken away almost 40 years ago, long before they were born.

How did they know? Who told them?

Meanwhile, many of America’s best and brightest, and most affluent 21-year-olds have been taking to the streets to demand those same freedoms be suppressed for all but the most elite of Americans.

Who told them? And why are they getting away with it?

Alexandr Solzhenitsyn reported in The Gulag Archipelago that not only was it a crime to speak against Stalin’s state, but a crime to overhear it and not report it. The punishments were equal in severity. It was the same under the Nazis in Germany, both patrolled by a secret police apparatus that seemed to be everywhere.

So in Iran, “totalitarian” is the better description than Nazism, Communism or Theocracy[…]

Bless her heart.  Lady Penguin is saying what we’ve all been thinking the past 24 plus hours.

Unified Patriots by Lady Penguin

Yesterday, a new meme magically made its way into the 24/7 news cycle. What would we do without at least one new story a day pushing the, “But Russia, but Russia interfered” election narrative?

Reality Winner, yes, that’s her name, and I’m not concerned if she was born with it or not – it’s obviously her choice to go forth in life with being unconventional; fits everything else in her young life’s resume. Ms. Winner is of the millennial generation. A generation of young people (20-30+yr olds) who think they own the world and can run it. If you watch any of the cable news channels, and then hang in there for viewing the old standbys of NBC, ABC, and CBS, they’re mostly populated by this age group. The old folks are being driven out.

So, this generation of young people produces a woman named Reality Winner, an Air Force veteran, speaker of several Iranian based languages, and at 25, she made it into a very high level security clearance level. Not too much unusual in that these days – FBI starts them young, and the military certainly has their fair share of young people in incredibly responsible positions.

But how did Ms. Winner get her security clearance? That’s the most important question that should be addressed.

Her background: military? check, foreign language capabilities? check, and supposedly being bright and intelligent made her marketable in the workplace. But in a high level security position? Now that is the box that shouldn’t have been checked. The red flags were all over this individual as regards her sentiments about loyalty and patriotism toward America.

This is where the only question I can ask is, “How in the world did she pass the background checks?” We have two scenarios to consider: 1) Incredibly sloppy work on the part of whomever was hired by the contracting firm she worked for to do these background checks, or 2) This was deliberate, ie. we’ll give her security clearances anyway because it suits our purposes. These days one has to consider the devious as well as the more simple explanation. On this, the Left is going to go with Occam’s Razor. Many of us fighting the Left will be open to much more serious analysis of why and how she did what she did[…]

US Women’s Chess Champion Refuses to Submit to Iran and the Hijab

Today’s feminists no different than the feminists of yesterday are out of touch AND hypocrites.  They live in la la land with pink hats and make believe.  There is not feminist in the history of the United States dead or alive that can walk in the shoes of U. S. chess champion, Nazi Paikidze-Barnes.

Nazi Paikidze-Barnes

Nazi Paikidze-Barnes

Independent Sentinel by S. Noble

In October 2016 Nazi Paikidze-Barnes, a Georgian-American is the U.S. Chess Champion and Olympic team member and she has made good on her decision to boycott the World Championship competition. She announced in October that she would boycott the Women’s World Chess Championship 2017 in Tehran, Iran due to its hijab dress code. Iran demanded foreign women submit to their dress code.

The best-ranked female chess player in the United States said she would rather sacrifice her career than submit to demands to wear a hijab at the next world championship.

Her actions are heroic, and it exposes the National Organization for Women for what they are. We hear crickets from NOW. They are nothing more than window dressing and tools of the far-left.

Paikidze-Barnes said that she has received a lot of positive feedback and appreciation from Iranian women who have to face this type of oppression every day[…]

five Iran hostages released

The Obama administration is denying that $400 million airlifted and delivered to the Iranian government that coincided with the release of four Americans by Iran was a ransom payment last January.

Wall Street Journal by Jay Solomon and Carol E. Lee

Wooden pallets stacked with euros, Swiss francs and other currencies were flown into Iran on an unmarked cargo plane, according to these officials. The U.S. procured the money from the central banks of the Netherlands and Switzerland, they said.

The money represented the first installment of a $1.7 billion settlement the Obama administration reached with Iran to resolve a decades-old dispute over a failed arms deal signed just before the 1979 fall of Iran’s last monarch, Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi.

The settlement, which resolved claims before an international tribunal in The Hague, also coincided with the formal implementation that same weekend of the landmark nuclear agreement reached between Tehran, the U.S. and other global powers the summer before[…]

Now that Iran knows that the United States has changed its policy on paying ransom, Iran will step up its game of detaining Americans.

Governor Mike Huckabee called it at the time of the release.
