Scott Kirwan: Interesting question. My first instinct is to punch back twice as hard but considering how hysterical the Left is getting I’m thinking another course of action might be called for:
Laughter.
I never thought the Left would become more unhinged than it was in the lead-up to the Iraq War, but Trump has pushed them passed that point years ago. I’d be embarrassed to be a Democrat today. The party has lost its collective mind, and I find that hilarious. And now they are trotting out a 20-something as their standard-bearer, a girl who wasn’t around for Communism the first time but who just knows it’s sooo cool. Yeah, that Brezhnev – what a fashionista.
That said if we are going to laugh at them, we should do so while heading to the polls this Fall. Normally I don’t vote in non-presidential elections but I’ll be doing so this year.
Rob Miller: By all means, vote…unless you’ve had your votes made meaningless because you live in a blue run state and your neighborhood has been gerrymandered to be safe Democrat no matter what. I think more is called for.
Two things I haven’t seen discussed too much, certainly not by the usual suspects in the media. Almost all of these incidents have two things in common. First, they all occur in blue run jurisdictions, where the police, who take their orders from the local politicians can be told not to interfere. Second, they mostly involve mobs descending on smaller groups or even single individuals.
They’re not only totalitarian barbarians but cowards. What’s called for is what I refer to as puppy training. That means consequences for misbehavior.
Once the president gets rid of Jeff Sessions and gets a real attorney general, there are a lot of corrections to be had. You’ll notice that a bunch of ‘resistance’ punks in Portland, Oregon surrounded and blockaded an ICE office and the mayor and the police did nothing…and then, all of a sudden, after a day or so of this, the police moved in, cleared away the ‘demonstrators’ and arrested some of them. Perhaps someone at the White House called the Mayor and mentioned that impeding federal officers from carrying out their duties s a felony, and so is impeding a federal office from carrying out their normal business. And so is aiding and abetting.
Former president Barack Hussein Obama got away with weaponizing federal agencies like the IRS to go after those he considered his political opponents. Things like that can also work both ways if necessary.So can lawfare. And Dick Tuck style pranks. These people have no sense of humor and get literally hysterical when they’re mocked.
And on some occasions, simply standing up to these people can bear fruit,when the odds are right. It’s time the Left learned that there’s a price to pay for their antics.
Laura Rambeau Lee:The proper response seems to be just keep calm, keep speaking the truth whenever and wherever we can, grab some popcorn and watch it play out. Follow the growing #WalkAway Campaign founded by former liberal Brandon Straka. People from all “identity groups” are waking up to the lies they have been told by liberals and the Democrat Party and are walking away. Their testimonials on Facebook are powerful and enlightening to read.
And I agree with Don. We have to vote and get others to vote. That’s how we win!

Rob Miller:I’ve never been a fan of debt unless it’s tax deductible.
But as we all know sometimes, it’s a necessary gamble and government has its own rules, after all. Sometimes, you really do have to spend money to make money, and other times there are simply necessary expenses you have to finance.
I think this deal was necessary for a couple of reasons. And I think President Trump as a businessman is well aware of this.
First, it gets rid of Barack Hussein Obama’s sequester nonsense and allows for badly needed defense spending. Most Americans have no clue as to how badly Barack Hussein Obama and his minions damaged our military.
This period also saw our military reduced to a ‘social justice’ and ‘diversity’ experiment, with a number of experienced NCOs, enlisted men and officers who wanted to make the military their career being tossed out and in many cases replaced by new recruits who were far less capable but belonged to groups more likely to vote Democrat. And a number of our top combat commanders like Stan McCrystal and then Marine General Mattis saw themselves forced into ‘retirement’ and passed over for promotion. President Obama’s war on religion in the military and insistence that chaplains officiate at same sex marriage not only saw many chaplains resign their commissions but had a definite effect on re-enlistments. Rebuilding our military from a personnel standpoint will also take money and commitment.
Second, America’s infrastructure very badly needs repairs. That also takes money and is a national security issue as well as an economic one.
Finally, this is a political victory. It is a two year funding bill, and it was done without the concessions for the illegal migrants known as ‘Dreamers’ the Democrats formerly demanded. They signed onto this bill for nothing more than a promise of a debate in congress. And they did it understanding that the promise means nothing.. President trump will not sign any bill that doesn’t end chain migration, end the ridiculous ‘diversity visas’ hire more border patrolmen and pay for the border wall, and the Democrats will never concede these points. In other words, they have, for all practical purposes cut the Dreamers adrift except for some nasty, meaningless rhetoric that can be used as CNN soundbites for the True Believers.
And don’t think that the Dreamers and their vociferous supporters don’t know they’ve been shafted. That could have some interesting implications in the midterms when it comes to Democrat turnout.
Another point worth mentioning is that much of what President Donaldus Maximus wants to spend the deficit spending on is going to lead to a great deal of economic activity, all of which can be taxed, not to mention real job creation which will also brings lots of money into the economy. I wouldn’t be surprised one bit if the taxable revenue created pretty much disposes or even exceeds the amount of deficit spending required.
I actually like Senator Rand Paul a lot and I think his late night showmanship in congress was actually necessary to remind his colleagues that they’re spending other people’s money and that fiscal competence is desired. But I see the benefits to be derived as far outweighing the possible consequences.
Dave Schuler: Rand Paul had it about right when he said that when the Republicans are in power there is no conservative party.
The CBO calculates that the new budget will result in a deficit of about 955 billion in 2018. That’s kind of high when the economy isn’t in recession—about 5.25% of GDP.
Its consequences will depend on how fast the economy grows. We can safely run a deficit less than or equal to the increase in GDP just about indefinitely. If the economy grows faster on an annual basis than it has since Ronald Reagan’s first term, we should be okay.
One major difference between now and Ronald Reagan’s first term is that the national debt is much higher both in absolute terms and related to GDP than it was then. The scholarship on that suggests that higher levels of debt are a drag on the economy. So, we’re conducting a real life experiment.
Laura Rambeau Lee:We conservatives spent many hours and contributed our hard earned money to help elect candidates who promised they would cut spending and reduce the debt. Through nearly a decade of hard work and dedication we delivered the House, Senate and ultimately the White House to Republicans. We expected our “trusted servants” to deliver on their promises. It has become obvious there is very little honor in Washington, only betrayal. This budget deal will not bode well for Republicans in the upcoming elections.
Very disappointed.

After a globull warmening inspired November and early December the cold is here. A couple inches of snow here but a couple inches doesn’t even bring out the snow plows. It’s just a fact of live and we all deal with it. I didn’t see a single car in the ditch unlike two inches of snowfall in Fayetteville NC. I don’t miss that, too many stupid people packed into too small a space.
Do you know how many country music singers it takes to change a light bulb? Four, one to put in the new bulb and three to sing about the old one.
I asked google how many songs there are about Hank Williams Sr but the best it could do was a pitiful list on Wikipedia. I’ve played a bunch for y’all in the past. Country singers like to recognize the shoulders they stand on, I can appreciate that. Sometimes they sing about a dozen performers who influenced them, Hank Jr’s “All My Rowdy Friends Have Settled Down” for one. Hank III’s “Country Heroes” for another. The Republican Party is formulating a battle plan to diminish the challenge their most dangerous enemy has presented for them. They’re trying like hell to figure out just what it will take to diminish the power and destructive might of forces they refuse to recognize in an opponent. And, thus we see the Republican Party’s need to coalesce behind battle-plans allowing them to progress beyond their present status of perpetual “also-ran”.
The main problem with this tactical development is their drive not to overcome Hillary Clinton but Donald Trump or any of the other droids seeking to maintain a liberal, socialist leaning nation where the middle class pays for everything, and the “poor” and “disadvantaged” have no responsibility to produce for themselves or the common good. This act shows how stupid the Republican Party hierarchy is right now. The hierarchy is too idiotic to recognize if they adopted his combativeness while fiercely addressing issues the Democrats shrink from; they could better control the narrative Trump has stolen from them in their rejection of the American people’s ideal.
They’d rather be “one –size fits none” than tailor-made for the ideals of the Constitution.
I’m no fan of The Donald. But Trump, for all of his blather, bombast and bullspit (sic) has vocalized what many people feel is the truth: Political Correctness (PC) is dishonesty in action and it’s destructive in practice. It hides personal, political agendas and there’s no illumination possible because of the “Black hole” of carefully crafted words disguising the truth of the debate. PC casts shadows on truth. It darkens perception by diverting attention to the act of PC as opposed to dealing with the issues to be addressed….

Don Surber : The Fourth of July means freedom from the government. The independence in Independence Day is the ability to tell the president to go to hell. Sadly, we seem to be losing this.
The Right Planet :The people who boarded leaky ships on a dangerous passage across an unforgiving ocean in hope of a better life in the New World did not embark on their dangerous voyage expecting to find free healthcare, social security, food stamps and subsidized housing upon their arrival. They simply wanted to escape tyranny and pursue their own lives as the say fit—come what may. They preferred to try and eek out an existence in an unknown land, rather than continue to tolerate and live under the oppressive rule of monarchs and tyrants. To them, it was better to sacrifice their blood, sweat and tears in the pursuit of freedom, than to toil under “quiet servitude” to an all-powerful State.
There was no government to speak of when the pilgrims first arrived in the New Land. But, if you listen to people like Barack Obama, et al., you might be left with the impression that before the earth was ever formed, there was government. “You didn’t build that,” sayeth dear leader.
I truly believe if the liberals of today were to write their own “declaration,” they would call it the Declaration of Codependence.
The Independent Sentinel: It’s fireworks, BBQs, Sousa marches, and outdoor grilling. Independence Day is also the day I pray for all those Patriots who came before and to all those who serve today and who make my freedom possible.
How can anyone ever thank people who sacrificed so much for us.
Since the Marxist in the White House began his treasonous assault on our Constitution and our freedoms, it means so much more to me. It’s now a responsibility to fight for the rule of law and for freedom whatever way I can and as long as I can.

I mourn for the July 4ths of yesterday.
My mother would get us up early on the morning of July 4th. After breakfast, she would dress us in either red and white or blue and white outfits. We each had an American flag pin appended to the lapel of our blouses and shirts. If there were no pins then we carried an American flag. After all, it was July 4th and a grand day to be an American.
Those were marvelous times. Even as children, we acknowledged the U. S. Constitution, our founding fathers and those who served thereby securing us the freedom and liberties to celebrate Independence Day. Young, old, regardless of ethnicity, all recognized and carried the significance of the day with us as we came together with family, friends and neighbors…..
Mark Dice’s video is proof that for many the significance of Independence Day is lost on far too many.
During my travels Saturday, I saw too few American flag lapel pins and flags being carried in hand. The children unless informed by their parents or grandparents are clueless. They believe that Independence Day is about firecrackers and hot dogs only.
Noticeable is the “increased” visibility for the first time since 9/11 of American flags in windows and on porches (in my neighborhood and surrounding areas). This leads me to believe that even in NYC, people sense that something is wrong.

This Fourth coincides with the 17th of Tammuz in the Hebrew calender. It’s a lunar calender, so the dates change every year. Among other things, this is the date that the Babylonians conquered Israel and destroyed the First Temple, as well as the day the Romans breached the walls of Jerusalem and destroyed the Second Temple in 70 CE. It is ordinarily a day of prayer and fasting, which occurred Sunday, the 5th, since fasting is prohibited on the Jewish Sabbath.
It’s also worth noting that the 17th of Tammuz also coincided with July Fourth in 1776.
I personally see in this a message to us. I believe the wall of our liberties and our Constitution have been breached, and I noted the air of uneasiness among many Americans this year on Independence Day…a sort of tired resignation. I think we’re in for some rough times and stormy weather.
1776 was also the start of a period of great turmoil in America, as those committed to liberty fought for it, not only against the British but against many of their fellow countrymen who liked the status quo just fine.
I have noted a lot of what I call ‘rah rah talk’ among many commentators, urging people to man up and ‘fight’ against the usurpation of our liberties..with zero details or practical suggestions. Those details and practical solutions are exactly what’s needed if real political change is to be accomplished and our Republic reaffirmed, and what we should be concentrating on right now.
I emphasize political change, because I still believe such change can still – just barely- be accomplished by lawful means,
If July Fourth means anything, it means channeling the spirit of our ancestors and facing adversity with the same willingness to risk our lives, fortunes and sacred honor. If we do that, we will win.

This inclination to do right has been virtually unique among the nations of the world – and for this very reason – America has been totally misunderstood. How could a nation so rich, so successful actually, really be so unselfish and so caring?
Unconvincing (and either historically igno – or deceitfully dishonest – either term will do) critics cry Great Satan must have darker motives! America must be seeking imperium – to dominate everyone else, suck up all the oil, to trade and rob blind for America’s selfish purposes.
People from more grasping, less idealistic societies find it nigh impossible to accept that America honestly believes that giving everyone opportunity is the real roadmap for abundance and happiness everywhere – not merely in the magical Great Satan.
Americans honestly believe that securing other people’s freedom is actually like the best guarantee that America can keep her own.
Great Satan does not want to dominate the world. Americans want to live in peace and hope other people will too.
Great Satan will go out into the world, redress errors, stop uncool unacceptable behavior, to first challenge, then annihilate threats to our liberty.
Creative destruction is Great Satan’s middle name. It is her natural function, for she is the one truly revolutionary country in the world for more than 2 centuries.
She does it automatically, and that is precisely why creeps and tyrants hate her guts, and are driven to attack her. An enormous advantage, despots fear her, and oppressed peoples want what she offers: freedom.

Laura Rambeau Lee,Right Reason : Growing up, every Fourth of July our family traveled and celebrated the holiday with a big family reunion which revolved around the Kutztown State Fair in Pennsylvania. The fair showcases Pennsylvania Dutch and Amish tradition, culture, foods, and crafts. My family goes back to the early 1700s and the first of my ancestors who arrived in the colonies fought in the Revolutionary War.
The Fourth of July fills me with wonder at the sacrifices of these early settlers who traveled from Germany to find a new life, not knowing exactly what they would find once they reached these shores. I am filled with pride knowing they were a part of this country’s founding. Their legacy of freedom lives on in me, and in my children and grandchildren.
We have been blessed with three grandchildren, and as I look into their eyes I see my posterity. It is because of them I am resolved to do whatever it takes to assure their future remains secure and that they will be able to live in a free America. To do nothing, to say nothing, to not teach them about their proud heritage and the history of the United States is unacceptable. I am reminded of the words of President Ronald Reagan: “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same.” It is up to us, parents and grandparents, to make sure our children understand our history, the history of humankind, civilization, and how our republic came to be. It begins with education, and this is where we must focus our attention.
