~ “I hope we once again have reminded people that man is not free unless government is limited. There’s a clear cause and effect here that is as neat and predictable as a law of physics: as government expands, liberty contracts.” Ronald Reagan.

The Veteran’s Day we celebrate now was originally known as Armistice Day until 1954. The purpose of the holiday was to commemorate the end of World War I on November 11, 1918. Presidents often participate in ceremonies on November 11th at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, now the Tomb of the Unknowns, at Arlington National Cemetery, which is located across the Potomac River from Washington, DC. President Roosevelt attended Armistice Day events at Arlington every November during his tenure in office. Presented here are photos from four of those years from the Harris and Ewing Photograph Collection held by the Library of Congress.

In 1936, General John J. Pershing joined FDR in paying tribute at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier (Now Tomb of the Unknowns). As his schedule notes, the President “motored” out to Arlington at 10:45 AM for the 11:00 event.  General Pershing had served as commander of the Allied Expeditionary Forces in Europe during World War I.
Secretary of War Harry Woodring provided remarks, and Pershing placed a white chrysanthemum wreath on the President’s and the American people’s behalf at the foot of the tomb. A solemn crowd then heard a bugler play taps. The President returned to the White House at 11:45.

In 1937, the President was accompanied by his mother to ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery.

In 1938, Roosevelt arrived at Arlington National Cemetery to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the end of World War I. He was accompanied by his military aides Captain Daniel Callaghan and Colonel Edwin “Pa” Watson.
Earlier that year, he’d signed a bill making Armistice Day a national legal holiday. The future Cuban dictator, who largely exercised control over Cuba at the time, Fulgencio Batista, also attended the ceremonies. Over twenty years later, he’d be overthrown by a young revolutionary named Fidel Castro.

More important than any other guests, even the President, were World War I service members and war mothers. One such veteran was Alex Stern, who lost his leg at the battle of Meuse-Argonne. Nearby, Mrs. Rosa M. Cawood, a war mother, takes a photo of President Roosevelt during the ceremony.

Armistice Day events at Arlington in 1939 were again a somber occasion to mark the sacrifices made by so many Americans, as well as their Allied counterparts, during World War I. That year’s ceremonies were held in the dark shadow of the new European war, which would ultimately become World War II. Acting Secretary of the Navy Charles Edison, son of inventor Thomas Edison, delivered remarks.

We are the political descendants of Franklin Delano Roosevelt who left us an inheritance in 1944, an economic Bill of Rights, alternatively dubbed the “Second Bill of Rights”. Written with Columbia law professor Adolf Berle Jr., one of FDR’s brain trust, the new Bill of Rights reflected the vision of a man who told Roosevelt in a 1932 memo that “nineteenth-century competition and individualism were anachronistic.”

Berle also co-authored The Modern Corporation and Private Property in 1932 which advanced the thesis that large business corporations did not serve the public interest and should, therefore, be controlled by the government.

It’s been brought to life by Communists in the U.N. with their Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and it never died in the United States, thanks to an entire party dedicated to the ideology.

THE ECONOMIC BILL OF RIGHTS

During his State of the Union, on January 11, 1944, FDR delivered the new commandments and etched them into the minds and hearts of an entire party. This is why President Trump’s “America First” and love of individual liberty arouses disgust and disbelief in half the nation. We have inherited the collectivism of Franklin Roosevelt.

The Bill of Rights is no longer enough to assure equality and happiness, he intoned. His collective declaration made us all responsible for all of the basics and security of the others.

“We cannot be content, no matter how high that general standard of living may be if some fraction of our people—whether it be one-third or one-fifth or one-tenth—is ill-fed, ill-clothed, ill-housed, and insecure,” he asserted.

We were suddenly responsible for equality of all and for each others pursuit of happiness with self-reliance and responsibility on the back burner.

Ironically, he framed individual freedom as only achievable if all are secure and prosperous. “Necessitous men are not free men,” he declared. His reasoning was that we would face a dictatorship if any men go hungry. It was the only path to world peace, he assured Americans[…]

Setting the record straight on the selective outrage of the Progressive establishment.

Front Page Magazine by Daniel Greenfield

A little bit of American history. After Pearl Harbor, the naturalization of enemy aliens was suspended for a time.

The myth popularized by the left is that after Pearl Harbor the United States began randomly going after Japanese-Americans because of racism. The actual reality is that the United States began relocating “enemy aliens” in the West Coast, which meant Germans, Japanese and Italians who were not United States citizens. Race wasn’t the issue. Fear of an invasion was.

Executive Order 9066 is what the left loves talking about. And it’s bringing up 9066 in reference to Trump’s comments. But far more relevant are Presidential Proclamations 2525 through 2527.

Let’s start with FDR’s Presidential Proclamation 2525 after Pearl Harbor. It applied to the Japanese, 2526 to the Germans, 2527 to the Italians. But otherwise they were basically the same. Trump actually referenced these on Good Morning America as the basis for his proposals.

WHEREAS it is provided by Section 21 of Title 50 of the United States Code [11 F. C. A., tit. 50, § 21] as follows: “Whenever there is a declared war between the United States and any foreign nation or government, or any invasion or predatory incursion is perpetrated, attempted[…]
