A Note on the Trump Cult of Personality and the Omnibus Bill

Congress, GOP, Omnibus spending bill, President Donald J. Trump

Unified Patriots by Vassar Bushmills

I’ve always known there were a few cultists out there.

Actually, I’m a cultist too, only not about Donald Trump. Talk about the Constitution, and the purposes of the Founders? Then I’m a cultist, which is why I have cut my Conservatism Fan Club list in half.

A couple of days ago Donald Trump signed a horrible omnibus spending bill which, on its face, purported to give the Democrats everything they’ve been holding out for while denying the American voters almost everything they’ve been asking and expecting from candidate Trump, save a giant increase in military spending for much needed big-ticket items such as aircraft and weaponry.

And adding to the sobriety of the occasion, Trump was hardly happy-go-lucky in explaining this decision. I recall a Baptist preacher called in to speak over a man who never darkened the doorway of a church, going around to family members and friends trying to find something nice to say about the fellow. Trump was almost funeary in the way he also tried to paint a hopeful picture on this bill. Something that “had to be done” he explained.

I think everyone was shocked Trump went ahead and signed such a bad bill, but trying to understand his true meaning, and explaining it to his jilted Cult Clatch is not the same.

Twitter was filled with cries of “Quisling sell-out”, “double crosser”, “I’m outta here”, “No hope, no how”, making Ann Coulter seem like an optimist by comparison. We’ve all seen this kind of star-worship on Twitter, as if Donald Trump were their own personal saint. I can’t know their age, or sex (if they have an androgynous handle), but on Twitter a majority seem young, where star-gazing isn’t all that far fetched. But on Limbaugh some people called in who clearly were over 50, at least. And they sounded even more fatalistic, without the pain of Cupid’s arrow being jerked out of their hearts.

Sober, clear headed resignation.

A few observations.

Donald Trump was never Frankie Avalon, Elvis, or the Beatles, who only sang songs so we would buy them. With Donald Trump, the reverse is true. The American people wrote the music, actually the entire score, of Make America Great Again. We defined him. He did not mold, shape or define us. It has always been the other way around.  And our war began almost a decade ago, for some, over a generation[…]

Decades ago, I realized that we had some rather unsavory characters in our government, on every level, i.e., federal, state and local.

I must say that if one is following the insanity on a daily basis, it could become dangerous to your health.  So much negativity comes out of the swamp.  The one thing that swamp critters have proven to those of us who have watched these thugs in action for decades, DECADES is that yes, this country REALLY NEED TERM LIMITS.

Seeing Red AZ

After first digging in his heels against calls for him to resign from his U.S. House seat amid allegations of tens of thousands in payoffs from a congressional taxpayer paid “hush fund” — maintained solely for victims of sexual harassment —- John Conyers, Jr. (D-MI) has conceded to the charges against him and quit. In his case being able to brag about assaulting female staffers might fall into the arena of braggadocio.  Conyers is 88 years old.  Implausibly, he has been  reelected in his Detroit district for 52 years. He wants his same named violent son, to follow him into the hallowed D.C. halls. John the Third was arrested for stabbing his girlfriend, but mysteriously never prosecuted[…]

Clintopn Foundation, Congress, Elizabeth Warren "native American", fake Russia narrative, Kate Steinle, Matt Lauer, Michael Flynn, sexual misconduct, slush fund, social-justice, violent crimes committed by illegal aliens

News of the Day — Fri. Dec. 1st

Breaking today is the news about Michael Flynn pleading guilty this morning. Progressives are spinning this as the end for President Donald J. Trump but is it really?

And why is it that every time the news stream is full of sins committed by Progressives, so call breaking news from the Mueller camp? Suddenly, everyone is back on the fake Russian hoax again and no one is talking about Matt Lauer, Al Franken or John Conyers? Coincidence?

The primary agenda of the Communist media complex is to Spin! Spin! Spin!

If Republicans FINALLY push through the vote on tax reform this afternoon, how much press will it get?  I suspect that the deep state has instructed its puppets to ignore any Trump successes and stick to Russia, Russia, Russia.

Let the miscreants of both parties foot the bill for their own sins.

Grumpy Opinions by PUMABydesign001

Minority Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, in the past two weeks has had more fires to deal with than she has had to deal with over the past nine years.

While on the surface, Pelosi was demanding equal rights for women, accusing the Republicans of a war on women and President Donald J. Trump of being a sexist, on the down-low Miss Nancy was willfully ignorant of the shenanigans of the “boys will be boys” network.

(What about “girls will be girls”? Now come on, surely Americans cannot for believe one moment that with today’s feminists, men are alleged to be the only offenders/predators? Waiting for THAT shoe to drop. Nope, not really but it’s coming. Get extra popcorn, America[…]

We Need More Federal Government!

Big Government, Congress, federal court, Federal funding, federal spending

Unified Patriots by Bob Montgomery

Did you hear that? That was the sound of my jaw dropping and hitting the floor all the way across the country from where you live. I just read this piece at National Review Online and in addition to my sore jaw, I fell out of my chair and damaged my entire psyche. I am, what is the cool phrase hip writers use? Gobsmacked? I am gobsmacked. At first I thought it had to be”The Onion”, but alas, it was “National Review”. A sign of the times, you might say.

“To truly have an effect on the judicial branch, the Republican Congress needs to appropriate funds to increase the size of the lower federal courts. Our suggestion, spelled out more fully in our new paper, would be to boost the total number of judges by roughly 33 percent, as President Jimmy Carter and a Democratic Congress did in the 1970s.”

These brilliant thinkers either never read Leviathan, are Big Government Socialists, true believers in practicing the definition of insanity, or all three.

“Steven G. Calabresi is the Clayton J. & Henry R. Barber Professor at the Northwestern Pritzker School of Law. Shams Hirji received his J.D. cum laude from Northwestern Pritzker School of Law this past May.”

They cry and whine about the backlog of cases in the federal court system, but rather than getting to the root of the problem, which is that there are way too many federal cases in the first place, their solution, which is actually an invitation for more of the same, is to hire a whole boatload of more federal judges, and the cast of thousands that goes along with them.

I have written about the malignancy that is our federal judiciary a few times in the past, including here.

“…there are 864 federal judges in the United States. Eight hundred and sixty four. Counting the appeals courts and the district courts and of course the Supremes, there are as many federal judges with jurisdiction over Indiana as there are members of the Indiana State Senate.”

And we need 250 more? Lawyers gotta lawyer, I guess. To be fair, the authors recommend cutting funding for so-called “administrative law judges” ensconced in the bureaucracies, and replacing them with actual members of the federal judiciary, with life tenure[…]

95% of Progressives pushing $15 Minimum Wage don’t pay their interns

Congress, hypocrites, Pay Workers a Living Wage Act Congressional Progressive Caucus, Raise the Wage Act, Senate, unpaid internships

Last month, the Congressional Progressive Caucus introduced the Pay Workers a Living Wage Act, which if passed by 2024 would increase the minimum wage to $15 per hour.

CPC

“The federal minimum wage has been a stagnant $7.25 for far too long, forcing workers to juggle multiple jobs while barely making ends meet. For years, the CPC and progressive groups like Fight for $15 and Good Jobs Nation have fought for workers’ right to a living wage and have continued to show how low wages impact the daily lives of working families.”

“The Raise the Wage Act shows the Democratic Party is unified in committing itself to workers and addressing the economic hardships families are facing every day….

Do as I say, not as I do.

Big talk coming from those who held all three executive branches of government through 2012 and did not act. In fact, the subject of raising minimum wage did not come up until 2013 after Progressives lost both Houses.

Those who threw their weight behind the Fight for $15 agenda, sponsored and co-sponsored the Pay Workers a Living Wage Act are hypocrites. Pursuant to an analysis by Employment Policies Institute (EPI), 95% of Progressives in both Congress and the Senate who support the legislation to force corporations to pay their workers $15 per hour do not pay their interns.

According to EPI, 174 out of 184 “cosponsors and primary sponsors” of the Pay Workers a Living Wage Act, hire unpaid interns.

  • In the Senate, Senators Kamala Harris, Chuck Schumer, Cory Booker, Chris Murphy and 20 other cosponsors hire unpaid interns.
  • Of those that do offer a stipend, Senator Bernie Sanders is the only member who pays an hourly wage….Senator Sanders’ office only pays interns $12 an hour, short of his $15 proposal.
  • In the House of Representatives, Representatives Nancy Pelosi, Steny Hoyer, Keith Ellison, Maxine Waters and 145 other cosponsors do not pay their interns. Only 9 members from both chambers offer some form of a stipend, representing 5 percent of cosponsors.

“It’s hypocritical to rally for a $15 minimum wage when these lawmakers don’t pay their own entry level employees a cent,” said Michael Saltsman, EPI’s managing director. “Policymakers might object to paying interns because it will reduce the number of available opportunities–but the same dynamic applies in the private sector, where businesses are forced to cut staff or close down.”

Washington Free Beacon by Ali Meyer

Rep. Bennie Thompson (D., Miss.), Rep. Betty McCollum (D., Mn.) and Rep. Robert Scott (D., Va.) pay their interns with a stipend. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.) and Sen. Sherrod Brown (D., Ohio) said they offer some stipends or limited financial assistance.

Sen. Brian Schatz (D., Hi.), Sen. Mazie Hirono (D., Hi.) and Sen. Tim Kaine (D., Va.) offer stipends or some assistance but they are only under certain conditions or to cover expenses like travel or housing.

Sen. Patrick Leahy (D., Vt.) said stipends are often available but they are not guaranteed….
