Maggie’s Notebook by Maggie

You think we’re winning against Common Core, right? The Department of Defense (DoD) (our Pentagon) is aligning with Common Core in all DoD K-5th (and up to 12 as the machine grinds) schools in “The Americas, Europe, The Pacifics.” Capiche? Busy indoctrinating American children with parents serving in our military. The U.S. State Department is doing the same thing with children of diplomats, and others, in Muslim countries and all across the globe. Read that story here. The official moniker is Department of Defense Education Activities (DodEA) and they are:

. . . putting in place national guidelines in math — based on Common Core State Standards — for pre-kindergarten through fifth grade.

Remember, these kids get Common Core abroad, and surely most of them return to the U.S….

Hillary Clinton speech to NEA edited

Washington Examiner by Brent Scher

The Democratic candidates for president have decided to ditch plans to participate in an education forum planned for later this month in Iowa, and the forum’s organizer says it is because the candidates fear backlash from teachers unions.

The forum was set to be hosted by the Seventy Four, a news organization launched earlier this year by Campbell Brown, an education reform advocate, to direct more attention towards critical education issues. It was going to be co-hosted by the Des Moines Register and the American Federation for Children….

With it being election season, Progressive candidates once again electing to stand with the teachers’ unions have refused to publicly go on record unless, it’s of course, to voice their support of teachers’ unions as Hillary Clinton did earlier this week when she accepted the endorsement of the pro-Common Core National Education Association.

Brown wrote an op-ed in the Washington Post earlier this year in support of Common Core while at the same time accusing Republican Party 2016 presidential primary candidates of pandering.

It is worth noting that in July, Brown, husband, Dan Senor, an adviser under George W. Bush administration, attended a fundraiser for brother, Jeb.

So what is the problem? Because it is darn sure not about the children.

A world core curriculum global education

Grumpy Opinions by Grumpy

As you read Dr. Ileana Johnson Paugh‘s article below, and get ready to watch the debates tonight, remember that Jeb Bush’s Father, President George H.W. Bush, signed United Nations Agenda 21 for the United States… Since then every President has implemented portions of the treaty through regulation and executive orders, none more aggressively than Barack Obama even though the treaty has never been presented to the Senate for ratification.

They’re doing it that way because, like Bush Senior, subsequent president’s realized the American people would revolt, and hang any Senator who supported it.. The scheme would wipe out every freedom guaranteed in our Constitution.. Want to know why the Federal government wants to know who has guns, there’s your answer.

I found out a little over a year ago, the blueprint for Common Core is included in Agenda 21..

Why are our children being taught what seems to be an anti-American version of history and civics, people with a strong sense of Nationalism are not going to be compliant uncomplaining subjects of a of a Global Government. For Agenda 21 to succeed, our children must be trained to be global citizens….

Letter to Fordham Snake Oil Peddlers Part 1

Common Core Initiative Standards, Education, Smarter Balanced Practice and Training Tests (SBAC), Thomas B. Fordham Institute

Grumpy Opinions by Grumpy

Gretchen Logue wrote about the Recent op ed piece by Mike Petrilli and Robert Pondiscio, president and vice president for external affairs respectively of the Thomas B. Fordham Institute, which appeared in the Post Dispatch about the poor performance of our students on the SBAC test given this past spring. The same piece, with minor changes, appeared simultaneously in Connecticut and West Virginia. Not only did the op ed in Missouri contain easily verified factual errors, it continued to spout the unproven promises of Common Core and the associated standardized test. It sounded very much like the pamphlet sent by snake oil salesmen at the turn of the last century to Missouri’s own Mark Twain who railed against their false promises. Today’s guest post is by Dr. Mary Byrne Ed.D. who compares the work of Petrilli and Pondiscio to the snake oil promises and provides Missouri’s present day response.

Part 1 of 2

Mark Twain John Lewis lifelong friend - image u s embassy dot gov

“Snake Oil Salesman.” The phrase conjures up images of seedy profiteers trying to exploit an unsuspecting public by selling it fake cures. Mark Twain had harsh words for a snake oil peddler when enraged by the peddler’s attempt to sell bogus medicine to Twain by way of a letter and leaflet delivered to his home. According to the literature, the peddler’s “Elixir of Life” could cure such ailments as meningitis (which had killed Twain’s daughter in 1896) and diphtheria (which killed his 19-month-old son). A furious Twain dictated a letter of response to his secretary, which he then signed. What is a “snake oil salesman”? Why is peddling snake oil such a terrible thing?

A “snake oil salesman” is somebody that sells an item that claims to have some miraculous powers. This product is usually accompanied by a tremendous amount of hype. In an attempt to help push their products, the “snake oil salesman” will usually utilize planted accomplices who will claim that the product actually works. Snake oil salesmen take advantage of struggling people willing to pay whatever they have to find a cure for their chronic problems. The snake oil peddlers know their promises of relief aren’t supported with well-designed research, but, pilot studies and longitudinal research will interfere with the agenda of salesman’s corporate and foundation sponsors. The “suckers” are not only cheated out of their money, but they forgo opportunities for authentic, locally developed solutions to their schools’ specific ailments. In other words, parents and taxpayers pay “opportunity cost” as well as financial costs. Hucksters hock hope. Twain lashed out at the peddler because he was grieved by genuine pain that the snake oil salesman disingenuously promised to relieve.

Mark Twain’s letter of fury unleashed on a snake oil salesman for fraudulent advertising conjures up similar images when thinking about Mike Petrilli and Robert Pondiscio’s “Missouri: Don’t shoot the messenger.” Petrilli and Pondiscio are the president and vice president for external affairs respectively of the Thomas B. Fordham Institute, a non-governmental organization frequently referred to as a conservative think tank…..

Jeb Bush is trying to distance himself from Common Core

BEFUNKY screenshot jeb bush

He is avoiding using the term, and when he was asked about Common Core while campaigning in Iowa on Friday, August 14, 2015, Bush responded, “The term Common Core is so darned poisonous, I don’t even know what it means anymore.”

He’s just a guy who supports “state-created higher standards”:

Bush has previously described the standards as “poisonous politically,” but on Friday, he seemed thoroughly exasperated by the term itself and looked to move past it.

“I’m for higher standards – state-created, locally implemented – where the federal government has no role in the creation of standards, content or curriculum,” Bush said in Iowa.

He doesn’t say that the government should have no role in creating assessments. Strategic omission since the federal government obviously funded two Common Core assessment consortia, PARCC and Smarter Balanced[…]

Thanks to Jeb Bush taking advantage of the bully pulpit these past years, the archives are plentiful of Bush’s role and support of Common Core standards not to mention his antagonism against opposing voices.
