A new report revealed that incompetent state regulators in The California Public Utilities Commission failed to implement plans required by state law that could have prevented the devastating California wildfires.

Senate Bill 1028 required the three big California power companies, San Diego Gas & Electric, Southern California Edison and Pacific Gas & Electric, to provide detailed strategies for reducing fire threats, according to The San Diego Tribune.

The California Public Utilities Commission was supposed to review the filings, make comments, and follow up to ensure they followed the plans. They NEVER DID!

They did NOT issue directives to the power companies, and it’s been more than two years since the law was passed.

A spokesman for Edison, one of the power companies, blamed the regulators[…]

Did you hear that? That was the sound of my jaw dropping and hitting the floor all the way across the country from where you live. I just read this piece at National Review Online and in addition to my sore jaw, I fell out of my chair and damaged my entire psyche. I am, what is the cool phrase hip writers use? Gobsmacked? I am gobsmacked. At first I thought it had to be”The Onion”, but alas, it was “National Review”. A sign of the times, you might say.

“To truly have an effect on the judicial branch, the Republican Congress needs to appropriate funds to increase the size of the lower federal courts. Our suggestion, spelled out more fully in our new paper, would be to boost the total number of judges by roughly 33 percent, as President Jimmy Carter and a Democratic Congress did in the 1970s.”

These brilliant thinkers either never read Leviathan, are Big Government Socialists, true believers in practicing the definition of insanity, or all three.

They cry and whine about the backlog of cases in the federal court system, but rather than getting to the root of the problem, which is that there are way too many federal cases in the first place, their solution, which is actually an invitation for more of the same, is to hire a whole boatload of more federal judges, and the cast of thousands that goes along with them.

I have written about the malignancy that is our federal judiciary a few times in the past, including here.

“…there are 864 federal judges in the United States. Eight hundred and sixty four. Counting the appeals courts and the district courts and of course the Supremes, there are as many federal judges with jurisdiction over Indiana as there are members of the Indiana State Senate.”

And we need 250 more? Lawyers gotta lawyer, I guess. To be fair, the authors recommend cutting funding for so-called “administrative law judges” ensconced in the bureaucracies, and replacing them with actual members of the federal judiciary, with life tenure[…]

The original Magna Carta was a charter agreed to by King John of England in 1215. It just celebrated its 801st anniversary.

So no, I wasn’t there. But that charter has become part of an important, iconic, political myth that the deal between an unpopular king and rebellious barons marked the beginning of individual English freedoms, personal liberties, and due-process protection of individuals under the law. Magna Carta has also been cited as providing the essential foundation for the contemporary powers of Parliament and legal principles such as habeas corpus.

That’s the mythology, and it’s an important one.

Nikki Haley Just PROVED Beyond Any Doubt That UniParty DC Republicans are Intentionally Disconnected…

Cannot decide who was worse, Barack Obama in Disneyland or the extent to which the GOP continues to be tone deaf.

Did they really think that bringing in Nikki Haley to rebut Barack Obama’s final SOTU that Americans would see a D.C. outsider, exhale in relief and then fall back into line?

Forget the nonsense from President Obama’s State of The Union diatribe of same/same left-wing nonsense cloaked in claims of incivility from his opposition.  Forget that nonsense, it was predictable. Most of the electorate were more interested in whether the DC Republicans had received the message within a six-month-leading Donald Trump candidacy.

And…. the answer is a resounding NO !

 

There is only one party in DC and that is the UniParty run by Paul Ryan, Mitch McConnell, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi.  There’s not a hairs difference between them, and Nikki Haley just affirmed the GOPe commitment in that regard.
