Several hours before the annual West Indian Day parade was scheduled to begin on Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn, New York Labor Day, the insanity began.

Less than six blocks from the parade route, Carey Gaby, Esq., age 43, Andrew Cuomo’s first deputy general counsel at Empire State Development, was shot in the head by a stray bullet as he and his brother attempted to take cover when as shootout began nearby between rival gangs.

A fight broke out Monday morning shortly before 4 a.m. as Gabay and his brothers left a party and were walking down the street near Ebbetts Field Houses, located in a particular unsavory section of Flatbush known to be extremely dangerous, any hour of the day, any day of the week.

Wall Street Journal

According to police, two sets of people were firing shots at each other, on Empire Blvd. and on Bedford Avenue. Police recovered a semiautomatic weapon and 16 shell casings from the scene, they said.

After the incident, which happened at 3:41 a.m. ET, Mr. Gabay was taken to Kings County Hospital, where police said he was in critical condition and likely to die….

According to Aaron McNaughton, Gabay’s younger brother, “It was just totally random. Some guy walked up and was spraying bullets everywhere. I can’t believe it. He was a good guy, he just didn’t deserve this.’’

The shooter fired 8 to 10 shots into the crowd. Insane.

Gabay whose wife is pregnant is on life support while doctors make arrangements to donate his organs.

Unfortunately, the streets of New York, let alone Brooklyn, let alone this community will have had more than its share of bloodshed by Tuesday morning.

Not far from the shootings, a young man in his 20’s was stabbed. Video clip below (Warning: GRAPHIC).

On Sunday afternoon NYPD announced that it was dispatching 1500 officers to monitor the pre-dawn parties in Brooklyn. Little good that did to anyone victimized, raped, maimed or killed while out reveling.

New York Daily News

The NYPD is dispatching an additional 1,500 cops to keep an eye on pre-dawn parties before the West Indian Day Parade.

The J’Ouvert march through Flatbush is an annual tradition that kicks off around 4 a.m. Monday in Brooklyn.

The party is full of dancers, costumes, bands and baby powder — but has also featured outbursts of violence in years past.

A high-ranking police source told the Daily News he’s expecting a long night.

‘We don’t have stop and frisk anymore. So, obviously, all the stuff we had stopped them from doing will start over again. The pop-up parties are them drinking all night. They’ll see you driving around and stop what they’re doing,’ the source said….

J’Ouvert “unofficially” begins around midnight and yes, it is an all night party of dancers, people dressed up in costumes, some in masks, steel bands on trucks and baby powder.

Combine that with alcohol, hot weather (last night was in the mid-70’s and humid), marijuana, the ingestion of other toxic chemicals non-stop for the next 24 hours and you have spontaneous combustion — VIOLENCE. (My perspective on J’Ouvert at bottom of post.)

Rather than deal with the problem that plagues the Black community, Black homicide, Black on Black violence, both Andrew Cuomo and Bill de Blasio staged separate press conferences espousing the usual propaganda calling for gun control in the very community where Blacks are shot and killed by other Blacks every day of the week.

Hubris! B.S.!

At about the same time that Cuomo’s aide was shot, less than a half-mile away, Venita Haskins was grieving the loss of her 42-year-old son, Damon mortally wounded with a gunshot to the chest, the day before (Saturday evening).

Ms. Haskins lost her 32-year-old daughter, Tamecca Haskins one year earlier, July 6, 2014 not far from where Damon was killed.

Both were victims of Black on Black crime, the circumstances of which are eerily similar as both were shot in the chest

‘That’s my two oldest,’ Haskins, the devastated mother of five, told the Daily News on Sunday. ‘I’m very distraught right now … I’m at a loss for words right now….’

Reminiscent of the parades prior to and during the Dinkins era, liquor and marijuana was in abundance and enjoyed out in the open.

As it was during the Dinkins era, if you had respiratory problems, Eastern Parkway (the parade route) is the last place you needed to be on Labor Day.

Parade goers rewarding NYPD for turning a blind eye.

Parade goers rewarding NYPD for turning a blind eye.

The New York Post is this morning reporting that NYPD turned a blind eye to “blatant law breaking” at the parade. (Considering the attacks on law enforcement nationwide, can’t say I blame them.)

Bratton stated early Monday that there was no need to ban parties ahead of the parade in spite of the bloodshed, which the police commissioner called “unfortunate” but “no reason to not go forward with the events.” (Translation: If they want to kill each other, oh well…)

An older woman covered her nose as several young men shared a joint, dancing and blowing smoke into the air.

‘A lot is happening that isn’t supposed to be happening,’ she said, a look of disgust plain on her face.

One young man was also seen pouring Hennessy cognac into an iced-tea bottle, then doling it out into plastic cups. Three pals who were spotted drinking brown liquid from clear plastic cups as they cavorted along the parade route admitted that their beverage of choice was the same type of booze….

NYPD sources said supervisors have traditionally urged restraint when dealing with parade goers, with one cop saying the brass ‘forbid us from making arrests, no matter what we saw, because they didn’t want riots….’

MY PERSPECTIVE ON J’OUVERT

BE FUNKY WEST INDIAN DAY PARADE

[No one who attends the yearly parade or the West Indian American Day Carnival Association itself gives a damn about crime unless they’re directly affected. The event is a cash cow with a massive sponsorship, a primary reason for denying that the parade and surrounding festivities provide motive and opportunity for thuggish elements.]

In addition to nearly a month of endless reveling and festivities pre-Labor Day, there is always the sudden uptick of crime and violence Labor Day weekend.

Opportunity strikes as thousands of people from all parts of the world converge upon the community.

screeshot west indian day parade instagram

More than 2 million people attend the parade annually, preparations of which begin every year for the following year the morning after Labor Day.

On the weekend before the parade, there are pageants, costume balls, and parties throughout the area (city).

The clubs open about 7 pm Sunday evening and the parties start. Many leaving the clubs rather than go home pace the streets near the floats, steel bands and huge speakers are embedded flatbed trucks throughout the largest Caribbean community in the United States.

Sometime during the night, early Monday morning (pre-4 a.m.), thousands join the early revelers in the streets around the trucks blasting the music all night.

As the caravan begin to makes its way through the streets of Flatbush and parts of Crown Heights, thousands follow, many in costumes, covered by powder and just as many inebriated and/or under the influence of whatever move about until finally reaching the starting point of the parade, hours later. (Fortunately, I do not live on that side of town but for those who do, it is a sleepless night/weekend.)

Familiar with the goings on of Labor Day weekend in New York City since the West Indian Day Parades began in the late 1960’s, as a mother of a Black male, I am relieved when my son (now in his mid-30’s) touches base with me.
An even bigger relief is that for the first time in 17 years, my son was here in my house with me all night long. Trust me; it has been years since I slept so well on Labor Day.

I know that I’m sounding like a spoiler but for me, this is yet another downside of a sanctuary city.

I don’t get it but then I am American and the West Indian Day Parade is not about America or its people, another reason it is not my cup of tea.

West Indian Day Parade 2015 Every Flag but the American Flag collage

I rest my case.

It was not until Labor Day 2012 after the September 11 Islamic terrorist attacks that the American flag was flown in this parade.

For the next four or five years after, the American flag displayed proudly sometime around 2008, those behind the West Indian Day Parade returned to their pre-September 11th anti-American habits.

The mentality is that while they make their living in the United States, feed of the American workforce, the parade is about them.

Complaints have poured in for decades about the violence around this parade, however, because it’s a means of showing off to the people at home and a cash cow for the organizers, Caribbean businesses and revenue for the City and State, no amount of dead bodies will put an end to this annual train wreck.

While Black lives matter, it is the battle for the golden goose that supersedes all.

Then there is the power struggle amongst the cliques, broken down by country.

As Americans, we mostly think of discrimination in terms of black v. white but in the Caribbean community, it’s broken down by country. (Trust me, I live in an apartment building full of tenants from different countries. From time to time, it gets dicey.)

Organizers of West Indian Day Parade accused of discrimination

Organizers of the West Indian Day Parade are making sure it’s run by a Trinidadian majority, say critics who are charging discrimination.

The West Indian American Day Carnival Association, which organizes the annual Labor Day event along Brooklyn’s Eastern Parkway, has raked in more than $1 million in city, state and federal funds over the past five years, but the nonprofit isn’t inclusive enough to deserve taxpayer dough, according to Rickford Burke, the head of the Caribbean Guyana Institute for Democracy….

In the end and based on the non-stop helicopters flying overhead from Friday night through Sunday morning and then again Monday night, I would bet the ranch that much of the violence committed this past weekend has yet to be made public.

De Blasio Backs Down in War against Uber

BEFUNKY screenshotbilldeblasio

UPDATE: Late Wednesday afternoon, New York City’s Commie Mayor Bill de Blasio and his comrades over at the NYC Council in a face saving move canceled a vote scheduled for today to cap the number of vehicles operated by Uber in New York City.

Doing the bidding of big labor donors, i.e., New York Taxi Workers Alliance, the intent of the proposal up for vote would have hindered the growth of app-driven taxi services in the city.

New York Times, by Matt Flegenheimer

The agreement brings a temporary end to a fractious struggle that had consumed City Hall for several days, and inundated parts of the city with mailers, phone calls, advertisements and even celebrity endorsements.

Under the agreement, according to three people familiar with the agreement, the city will conduct a four-month study on the effect of Uber and other for-hire vehicle operators on the city’s traffic and environment.

A City Council bill, which was to come to a vote as early as Thursday, had called for a cap on the company’s growth during the study. City officials said that a cap remained a possibility down the line.

The people said the agreement also called for Uber to release some of the data it had been seeking….

While the de Blasio administration is touting their momentary change of heart as a victory, a few hours earlier that Andrew Cuomo, referred to Uber as “one of these great inventions, start-ups, of this new economy. And it’s taking off like fire through dry grass….”

ari-gold-bitch-slap-o

Ouch!

De Blasio administration’s response was to accuse Cuomo of “manufacturing pretexts.” However, within hours of the slap heard around the world, de Blasio folded but not before NYC’s Comptroller, Scott Stringer, joined the fray Wednesday also coming out on the side of Uber in a press release:

It makes no sense to arbitrarily cap Uber and other for-hire vehicle companies before we study the impact of congestion on the streets of New York. We need to make sure that our transportation system works for everyone, including the City’s traditional yellow cabs, for-hire drivers, and most importantly the riding public. We need to think strategically about building out our transportation networks in a way that makes long-term sense for all New Yorkers…

There you have it, Scott Stringer, another Progressive attempting to sound not so Progressive (and political) but failing.

About “the impact of congestion on the streets of New York,” why waste millions of taxpayer dollars on a bogus impact study to say what every New Yorker already knows unless one intends to put a spin on it that no one will buy? I refer you to my original post below.

BEFUNKY BilldeBlasioNYCCouncilalliancewithbiglabornycyellowcabsVERSUSappdriventaxiservicessuchasUBER

ORIGINAL POST:

As you may have heard, New York City’s anti-capitalist “Tale of Two Cities,” Mayor Bill de Blasio and comrades at the NYC Council have declared war on app-drive taxi services such as Uber and Lyft.

Their actions is on behalf of NYC’s yellow taxicabs, the drivers of whom in 2011 merged with the AFL-CIO (ah hah!), i.e., the New York Taxi Workers Alliance.

New York Taxi Workers Alliance has a membership of 50,000 plus taxi drivers[i].

For nearly a half century and before Uber and Lyft came into existence yellow taxicabs had a monopoly on taxi service in New York City with wary New Yorkers baring the battle scars to prove it.

How Uber saved me from cab: Mayor de Blasio is leaving N.Y.ers stranded — like a black man trying to hail a taxi uptown

The news that Mayor de Blasio and the progressive clique running the City Council want to squelch the growth of the Uber car service is a sign of bad things to come for those of us who have endured decades of outrageous and illegal mistreatment at the hands of the yellow-taxi cartel.

The fancy tech-driven company and the progressives are engaging in a public war of words, with the Council and the mayor threatening to cap and essentially freeze the number of cars on the Uber platform and the company running ads slamming the pols for killing job opportunities for an estimated 10,000 people who want to become Uber drivers….

Commie Bill and the NYC Council’s war against Uber will hurt the poor and anyone else whom yellow taxicabs refuse to pick up because we are traveling to boroughs outside of Manhattan[ii].

The only time that yellow taxicabs will pick up passengers in outer boroughs traveling to Manhattan is early in the morning when the taxi drivers themselves are en route to Manhattan.

Now about that bogus impact study on congestion in the streets of NYC, one has only to point to De Blasio’s Vision Zero Action Plan but first let’s talk congestion.

The streets of Manhattan (and some avenues outside of Manhattan) remain congested almost 24/7/365 days a year. It has been that way for decades but under De Blasio’s Vision Zero, congestion is now even worse than the most pessimistic New Yorker would have dared imagine.

Courtesy of de Blasio’s utopian plan, the speed limit has been reduced throughout the city to 25 mph bringing driving here to a crawl. Adding to that is the installation of freaking bus and bike lanes now everywhere even where it is obvious that they do not belong.

Vision Zero is without argument the number one reason for congestion, aggravation amongst travelers throughout New York City and such a nightmare that I would go so far as to credit Vision Zero with the increase in traffic accidents…oh yes, and road rage.

Rather than own up to his failed policies, de Blasio, the most hated man in New York City blames Uber.

One thing is certain – every time Commie Bill acts under the guise of “leveling the playing field,” things go crashing downhill.

This IS personal.

As a New Yorker, I have experienced the crudeness of NYC’s yellow taxi cab drivers (not all but 8 out of 10) from a woman’s perspective, the perspective of an unhyphenated American and one traveling from Manhattan to the outer boroughs in all weather conditions dating as far back as 1977 up and through March of this year.

One of my first and worst experiences occurred after having worked late one Friday night during a snowstorm.

Around 8 p.m. I left the office to go home with no idea that subway service had been terminated.

As I waited in my heels and Barney’s suit at the corner of Broadway and Exchange Place, lower Manhattan, at least fifty yellow taxis passed me by refusing to pick me up. Some stopped to pick up other passengers about a half block before they reached me while others drove past me a half block to pick up someone else.

After ninety minutes, stranded and darned near frozen, a taxi pulled up out of nowhere. The driver told me to hop in and that he would take me home.

I gave him my destination and it was then that he informed me that he had drove by 45 minutes earlier with a passenger in his car and witnessed cabs passing me by, many of whom were empty. He said that it was at that moment he made the decision once he dropped off his fare to return and if I was still trying to get a cab, pick me up.

Little did I know that night that the next four decades would bring more of the same.

My latest experience happened mid-March of this year, 4:45 am, to be exact upon exiting NYC’s Port Authority Bus Terminal, when I attempted to hail a taxi.

The driver, African (and several shades darker than me), stopped and with the rear door open after informing him of my destination pulled off as I was attempting to load my luggage into the taxi.

He veered so quickly to the left that had it been a few seconds later, I would have landed on the tar on my face.

Not to worry, God had my back. Six minutes later, I was sitting in another taxi on my way to Brooklyn. The driver a man from Ecuador who had been in the country for twenty years and had just been married the year before.

I shared my experience with the driver who at that point informed me that the African taxi driver did not want to take me because he is racist against Blacks (but I knew that….how about that one).

Yellow cabs suck and the last thing New Yorkers want is the take-down or unionization of Uber or any other app-driven taxi service, the latter of which would put us all back to square one.

Finally, taking into account that Uber is backed by Progressives should also be a warning to New Yorkers not to get one’s hopes up.

===========================================

[i] NOTE: With the left hand, the New York Taxi Workers Alliance is backing Commie Bill and the New York City Council who have taken a page out of the NLRB and EPA’s playbook with their bogus “Environmental Impact Study of Growth of FHV Vehicles & Stop TLC from Issuing New Vehicle Permits During the Study Period.” (Sound familiar?)

With the right hand, they are inviting green and Uber cab drivers to join their union. A prerequisite would be the green and black Uber cars publicly conceding [my emphasis] by painting their vehicles yellow. (Are you kidding me? New Yorkers are concerned for a reason.)

[ii] At the same time, I am not too thrilled with Uber either. Several weeks ago, I used their app in an effort to ascertain taxi service from my home in Brooklyn to Mid-town Manhattan. It was on a Friday, about 2 p.m. (early rush hour in New York City). Uber came back to me with an approximate quote of “$63 to $110.” A yellow taxicab with meter running would have cost between $45 and $65. I opted to call a friend who drove me to my destination for gas in the tank.

The other side of the coin, however, is that my niece took an Uber taxi from South Ozone Park to Port Authority and it cost her only $15.

On Friday, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo had a sparsely attended summit to discuss the state government’s official email policy. The final outcome is an eyebrow-raiser, with the governor deciding that in many cases state employees can delete any official email at will….

Instead of the automatic deletion policy, Cuomo announced that state employees at all levels could manually delete any email that no longer retained any ‘value….’

Well, if Lois Lerner, Eric Holder, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton can delete their emails and not be held accountable or deterred, fascist Andy who has set his sights on the White House figures, “why not?”

“manually delete any email that no longer retained any ‘value…“  Sweet and who is to decide?

Is anyone in New York State paying attention?

At the same time, I can’t help but wonder if Obama ordered Preet Bharara to stand down.

On heck of a test balloon New York and you’re sleeping through it all.

The Spanish-speaking kids are the illegal alien children we are no longer allowed to call illegal alien children.

The article was written to praise Gov. Cuomo and Democrats for an astounding economic recovery after the greatest depression since the Great Depression according to their hyperbolic rhetoric, but in the article, they also mentioned instruction for ‘Spanish-speaking students. Those are our illegal alien children.

First about that mass influx of illegals from Honduras, Guatemala, Nicaragua, etc. which now that the weather is warm and people are out and about, is noticeable in my neighborhood as well, the only thing their presence will bring about is more crime, violent crimes committed by gangs.

Second, I believe Long Islanders pay the highest property tax rates in the nation. Where am I going here? Those so-called “tax caps” that were put into place are about to be over-ridden.

Third, decades ago, we had these so-called ESL classes in public schools and like all things social engineering, it failed because most people from other countries won’t speak a word of English (or feel that they have to).

For those who have always believed that it can’t happen here, think again, because it IS happening, and things are only going to get worse as data surveillance becomes a way of life.

Gun confiscation at the hands of medical records sharing is now officially a reality, with serious consequences for the individuals involved.

Now, under ObamaCare, the United States is on pace to swiftly become a snitch society that would make East Germany and Soviet Russia blush.

Despite the fact that he has no criminal record, was diagnosed with only “mild depression” and his record explicitly noted that there was no concern for violence, the man was listed as a “mental defective.” And thanks to New York’s “SAFE Act” for Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement Act of 2013, his weapons were seized by the local sheriff’s office after his records were shared and New York State Police made repeated requests for confiscation, as American Thinker reported:

Montgomery alleges that the hospital violated his privacy by transmitting his medical information to the State Police without his consent or knowledge. Montgomery subsequently requested a hearing to have his handgun ownership permit reinstated, but the sheriff’s department allegedly terminated his permit without a hearing.’

The plaintiff, Donald Montgomery, filed a lawsuit against numerous parties connected to the incident, including Gov. Andrew Cuomo, Vincent DeMarco….
